Don’t be afraid to speak up!

Beginning martial arts can be a very confusing and somewhat intimidating process. We’ve done our best to answer the most common questions we hear from our new students but we understand how much information you may need before making your decision on which academy to join. There is no such thing as “too many questions” so feel free to spend as much time as you need asking us about the sport, our philosophy or even which training equipment is best to purchase.

Are your classes safe for people who don’t have an active fitness background?


All of our programs were designed so that they are challenging, engaging, and fun for people with any level of experience. When you join any program at Hands Up Studios your individualized progress for the first few weeks will be carefully monitored by all of our instructors. Our goal is to teach you the techniques that you can use to begin your fitness and martial arts journey. Although we love when someone walks in the door asking us to teach them how to fight we understand that the average student is looking to lose some weight, have fun and make new friends. This is why we designed our Bootcamp classes so that the beginner can learn the martial arts techniques in a friendly, no contact environment.

What types of classes are there?

Hands Up Studios offers multiple martial arts styles in both striking and grappling. On any given week we offer Boxing, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Mixed Martial Arts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Combat Strong Conditioning, Yoga and our Future Fighters Youth Martial Arts program.

Which classes should I go to?

Hands Up Studios is a great location to study Martial Arts for students of all levels. Our classes are approachable for beginners and advanced students alike however we do suggest that beginner striking students seek out our Bootcamp program for the first several weeks of their tenure. Bootcamp classes focus on building strength, improving cardio and learning technique in a class with no contact. Our Kickboxing classes are all levels however there may be contact and light sparring. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Yoga and Combat Strong Conditioning classes are open to students of any experience level however our Future Fighters program is only for students aged 4-12.

What do I need to bring to class?

When you first come in to try classes at Hands Up Studios we will provide all equipment necessary to take classes. You will only be asked to bring shorts, a t shirt and a water bottle so you can stay hydrated. Students in striking classes will require boxing gloves, a mouthpiece, shin pads and a groin protector. Students in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes will be required to purchase a gi (kimono) in order to participate and achieve rank. Students in Submission Wrestling are not required to purchase any equipment.

When are classes?

Hands Up Studios has the largest schedule in South Jersey for Boxing, Kickboxing, Mixed Martial Arts, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. We have classes offered several times throughout the week during the morning and we offer classes Mon-Fri from 5pm-9 pm. We are also open on both Saturday and Sunday from 9 am-1 pm. Hands Up Studios is proud to offer classes 7 days a week to better serve our community.
